Shows

SPCA advocates that people involved in the showing and breeding of animals must prioritise health, welfare, and behavioural traits, when choosing which animals to breed, permit for entry to shows and select as winners.

SPCA supports updated pedigree breed standards which prioritise animal welfare and promote less extreme conformation.

SPCA opposes the promotion of pedigree breed standards that may lead to welfare harms.

SPCA advocates for owners of pedigree animals to consider whether their animal is suited to take part in shows.

Those responsible for the animals must meet their welfare needs during all aspects of attending shows, ensuring that they do not suffer any pain or distress during preparation, transportation and during their attendance.

Animals must only participate in shows if their physical, health, and behavioural needs are able to be met prior to, during, and after the event.
