Small Animals Volunteer
Christchurch Centre
Do you love bunnies, rodents, and birds and want to make a difference to the lives of these small creatures? Well, this could be the opportunity for you! We are seeking Small Animal Superstars to help with the daily care of our small animals and birds.
What will be involved:
- Cleaning cages, hutches, aviaries
- Feeding animals
- General cleaning of the areas including laundry, mopping, litter trays and dishes
- Providing enrichment and socialisation for our animals
As a small animals volunteer you will:
- Have a love for animals
- Be 16 years or older
- Be able to follow instructions
- Be able to take initiative
- Be reliable and hardworking
An onsite induction and hands-on training will be provided to successful applicants, and ongoing opportunities to learn more about the care of our small animals will be made available,
We have morning and afternoon shifts available, seven days a week and a flexible rostering system that we can work in with your schedule. We ask that you can commit to at least three shifts per month (but the more the merrier!)

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SPCA. Volunteers are a vital part of the SPCA team and we simply couldn't do the work we do without the large number of volunteers who donate their time to help the animals.
Please fill out the form below to start your volunteer journey with us. If you need assistance, please call the team at your local SPCA Centre or op shop.
Please note: Our centres and op shops have minimum age requirements to volunteer. For op shops the minimum age is 15 years. For volunteering at a centre, please enquire with them directly if you are under 16 years of age. You may need to provide an up-to-date Ministry of Justice check prior to starting. Please be aware that during the application process we will ask about any medical conditions (physical or mental) we need to be aware of to ensure your safety while volunteering for us.
