Feeding of Live Animals to Captive Animals.

SPCA opposes the feeding of live prey to captive animals.

The welfare of one species should not be valued over another, especially where the prey experience physical and psychological distress of being targeted by a predator in a confined area, with no chance of escape. This forced situation does not replicate how events unfold in the wild. The Zoo and Aquarium Association regard the practice of live vertebrate feeding as unnecessary.
