Need a new best friend?

30 September 2024

SPCA has hundreds of dogs and puppies waiting to meet their new person, and from 5 –20 Oct it’s a little easier to welcome them home with 25% off canine adoption fees.

Need a new best friend?

Canine lovers who adopt their new bestie during SPCA’s special two-week campaign will save 25% off the regular adoption fee.

“Spring is the perfect time for puppy love or the wise counsel of an older good boy or girl,” says Dr Corey Regnerus-Kell, SPCA's General Manager of Animal Services.

Dr Regnerus-Kell says the warmer months are more pleasant to settle a new member of the family at home.

“The adoption campaign captures a week of the school holidays, which means there’s a few more hands on deck to help your puppy or dog feel loved and protected.”

When you choose to adopt from SPCA, you know that your new fur-friend is set up for the best possible start with you - all canines come desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and health-checked. Centre staff can provide expert advice and resources, and support is only a phone call away.

As well as saving 25% on adoption fees, every dog also comes with three months of free pet insurance from SPCA Pet Insurance. For the two-week period, our friends at Zoetis are also providing all new dog adopters with a free single of Simparica Trio flea, tick and worm treatment, and a discount voucher for your future purchases.

There couldn't be a better time to bring a canine companion into your home. While giving a deserving animal a second chance at happiness, we know the positive impact for adopters too.

“Pet owners who’ve adopted from SPCA tell me they love the feeling of being needed, of being the subject of a dog’s unconditional affection. Some value the energy and excitement a puppy brings to the home. Many of us think our dog makes us more interesting,” Dr Regnerus-Kell. “Animals and humans tend to rescue each other.”

SPCA Scientific officer Dr Alison Vaughan says the benefits of caring for a companion animal are real.

“Research has shown pets can help reduce stress, relieve loneliness, provide routine and motivation, and encourage increased social connection and activity.”

All of the puppies and dogs ready for adoption can be viewed on our website. If a special someone catches your eye, you don't need to wait until the 5 October to apply either - applications received from 30 September will also honour the discount.

If adoption seems at first a tad daunting, SPCA invites animal lovers to consider fostering a puppy or dog as a trial run.
