Live Animals as Prizes
SPCA advocates for deliberate decision-making for animal ownership and that animals must only be kept as companions when a person has the knowledge, ability, and means to provide a Good Life and meet their physical, health, and behavioural needs.
SPCA opposes the giving of live animals as prizes due to the potential negative impacts on the animal’s welfare.
SPCA is concerned for the welfare of animals which come to be owned by chance, rather than as a result of deliberate planning and prior consideration.
