Live Baiting
SPCA opposes the use of live animals as bait for the purpose of baiting, training, and fighting because of the negative welfare impacts on the bait animal.
Live animals have been illegally used as bait for the purposes of training or fighting. For example, use of live possums or rabbits in training greyhounds or piglets in training pig hunting dogs.
It is in violation of the Animal Welfare Act 1999 to use live animals for baiting or fighting. Animals used as bait or a lure are likely to be injured or killed and experience distress due to the inability to escape.
