Canine volunteer - Weekday shifts
Whangarei Centre
We are looking for volunteers to help care for our dogs during week days. This role requires a good level of fitness and confidence in handling large dogs.
You will be required to help with the cleaning of the dog pens and to walk the dogs once the cleaning is done. The work we ask our canine volunteers to do is quite strenuous and you must be willing to walk to dogs in all weathers, rain or shine.
We need volunteers who can help with the following:
- With at least one 3 hour shift per week
- On any available day between Monday and Friday
- Between the hours of 9am – 12pm
- Are able to commit for a period of at least six months
You must be confident at handling dogs, hardworking and reliable. We need volunteers that are 18 years and older, and can understand written and spoken English.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SPCA. Volunteers are a vital part of the SPCA team and we simply couldn't do the work we do without the large number of volunteers who donate their time to help the animals.

Please note: Our centres and op shops have minimum age requirements to volunteer. For op shops the minimum age is 15 years. For volunteering at a centre, please enquire with them directly if you are under 16 years of age. You may need to provide an up-to-date Ministry of Justice check prior to starting. Please be aware that during the application process we will ask about any medical conditions (physical or mental) we need to be aware of to ensure your safety while volunteering for us.
