Help us Clear the Shelters – get 50% off adoptions this April

In addition to the half-price adoption fees, on Saturday 5 April SPCA is hosting a National Walk-in Adoption Day, where potential adopters can visit any SPCA Centre without an appointment to meet the animals in need of a second chance, and enquire about those still in foster.

“As we approach Easter, many of our foster families will be heading away, meaning animals in temporary care will return to our Centres. This adoption campaign is a fantastic opportunity to find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our care, and settle them in over the school holidays,” says Dr. Corey Regnerus-Kell, Veterinarian and General Manager of Animal Services at SPCA.

“Across Aotearoa, SPCA Centres are feeling the pressure as they rescue, rehabilitate and do their best to rehome so many sick, injured, neglected and vulnerable animals.

“Right now, we have 4,000 animals in our care and 1,100 are ready to be adopted today. We want to find homes for all the animals in our care, and that is why this campaign is so important. This is one way we can help every animal find a home and enjoy the love and kindness they need - something they missed out on before SPCA stepped in to help,” says Dr. Regnerus-Kell.

“This is the third year we have run this adoption campaign and based on previous years we know that when adoption fees are reduced, more people who were considering adopting a furry friend will take the leap.

“Our goal is simple: to empty our shelters by finding responsible, caring homes for these deserving animals,” says says Dr. Regnerus-Kell.

For those who may not find their perfect match on the ‘Walk-in Adoption Day’, the campaign runs for nine days, allowing plenty of time to find the right companion animal. Adoptions will continue by appointment from 6-13 April, and our usual adoption criteria will apply.

How you can help:

• Visit your local SPCA Centre on 5 April for our National Walk-in Adoption Day

• Adopt between 5-13 April and enjoy 50% off adoption fees

• Help us spread the word by encouraging friends and family who are considering adding a new furry family member to adopt from SPCA

• To speed up the adoption process on the day, we encourage adopters to apply online via our website ahead of time for an animal that might be a good fit for you, so we have your details already on our database when you walk in.

• Be patient with our team as our walk-in days are always popular, and you might need to wait for our team to answer your query.

Adoption fees during the campaign:

• Kittens - $100

• Puppies - $150

• Cats - $62.50

• Dogs - $125

• Rabbits - $30
