Reminder to SPCA donors to claim their tax credit
As we approach the end of the financial year, SPCA is reminding all the charitable New Zealanders who have given generously since 1 April 2024 to reclaim their tax rebate on donations.
Have you made a donation to SPCA in the last year? Did you know that you are able to claim back 33.33% of the total sum of all your donations for the period 1 April 2024 – 31 March 2025? You can also claim up to four years previous if you haven't already done so.
You can easily claim back one third of your total donations (for any donations over $5) online. It’s easy to do yourself with the IRD. You simply need tax receipts to do this, either a photo, or a scanned version of the physical receipt document. You also require a login to myIR, or alternatively a RealMe login.
What sort of donation did you make?
- One-off donation: you can submit the receipt which was issued to you each time you made a one-off donation over the last year.
- Regular donation (SPCA Guardian): you will receive an end-of-year receipt for all your monthly donations in April
Step-by-step guide on doing it yourself online

- Once you have logged in to the myIR portal and you are on the home page, you will see a 'donation tax credit' section near the top of the page. To the right of this section, click on the wording 'Enter donation tax credit receipts'
- On the next page, click on 'Add a receipt'
- You will need to enter the details of the charity organisation name. This is The Royal NZ Society forthe Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

- Select 'Next'
- Click 'Add receipt attachments'. You can attach the receipt by saving the pdf to your own computer and uploading it. If you have a physical copy, the IRD will also accept a scan or a photo of the receipt. You will need to select the type of attachment and put in a description of the document 'e.g. - Tax receipt 2024'
- Once all the required fields have been filled in, click 'OK' to go through to the following page. This will summarise the receipt details. If it all looks correct, press 'next' again
- On the final page, it will ask you if you would like to transfer your credit. You can press 'yes' if you wish to do so (for example back to SPCA) and 'no' if you would like the credit to come back to you
