Calling for volunteers – can you help SPCA 'Fill the Bucket'?
After a five-year break, SPCA is bringing back its much-loved street appeal under a new name: Fill the Bucket.
This iconic fundraiser event will see volunteers take to the streets on Friday 30 May and Saturday 31 May to collect donations to help care for New Zealand’s, sick, injured and vulnerable animals.
SPCA is calling on all animal lovers to sign up as either an Area Coordinator or Street Collector to make this event a success.
- Area Coordinators take on a leadership role, overseeing collection sites, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring everything runs smoothly in their area.
- Street Collectors will be out on the streets for two-hour shift with friends, family and they can bring their dogs, talking to people and collecting donations to help fill SPCA’s bucket.
“Returning to the days of street appeal is long overdue, but we can only do this if we have willing volunteers to shake the bucket or Eftpos machine in this digital world,” says SPCA CEO Todd Westwood. "Since 2020, we’ve missed that connection of talking to people out in their communities. We want to reconnect with our supporters who give generously to help animals in need.
‘Fill the Bucket’ is more than just a fundraiser, it’s a chance for Kiwis to show their love for animals. But to make it happen, we need volunteers. This event simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible people who sign up to be Area Coordinators and Street Collectors.”
The event will take place on 30 and 31 May, with collections happening nationwide. Whether you can spare two hours to collect donations as a Street Collector. or take on a leadership role as an Area Coordinator, every volunteer plays a part in making a difference for companion animals.
You can sign up online to become a Street Collector or Area Coordinator.
